Reviews:

“There was one performance that did not fit in with the rest of the festival’s performances and that was Message by Vytis Jankauskas Dance Company. Their performance was the only one of pure dance performances showed during the festival. The performance did not delve in deep thoughts or hide behind theatrics – neither did it try to put on decorations created by technologies. It sent a message of a world of serenity, and beauty without havoc.”

“Performers Giedrė Kirkilytė, Goda Laurinavičiūtė, Giedrė Subotinaitė, Ieva Šimukauskienė, and Vytis Jankauskas have a kindred feel of music and they do not try to live it out – rather to embody it plastically, therefore the performance is almost free from forced reactions, as if all movements flow in abstraction.”

“The prize for my personal favourite would go to Vytis Jankauskas’ performance Message. First of all, for the courage required of today’s dancer going onto an empty stage, free from the clutter of stage effects and ‘wonders’ of modern technologies. Vytis Jankauskas Dance Company was the only one in the festival to show such courage. Secondly, for comfortable sensuality, traditionally present in all works of this choreographer.  Thirdly, for not trying to be ultramodern, universal or different at any cost – for being true to oneself.”

“Even without any prior knowledge of the performance’s contents one could easily feel the atmosphere of some important happening. This atmosphere combined tension, sanctity, elegance, uncertainty, flounce and acceptance, or eternal move towards the happening in a manner perceivable only to the choreographer. It is difficult to describe the feeling as it was warm, soft, wide, terrifying, good, dynamic, beautiful, slow, fast, sorrowful, bright, light …”

“It was my first acquaintance with contemporary Lithuanian dance and Vytis Jankauskas, who still dances and is in great physical shape, was the grand discovery. His solo was detached, flowing, thought through, perceived, full of self-respect and strong.”
